Why is this an auditioned class?
Advanced Drama is a competition level class at Orem High School. We compete in the fall at the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City and then Advanced Drama class members are also cast in Orem High's spring play (April).
Can I take this class my junior and senior year?
Yes! The curriculum is different if you were to take this class as a junior and then as well as a senior. The competition pieces and productions are also different each year.
Do I really need to have taken another drama class before this class? Doesn't just being in the musical count?
I hope that every student who does a production with me is learning something, but there really are foundational skills that are taught in my beginning/intermediate/and MDT classes that you need to have to be in Advanced Drama. In the past, students (especially seniors) have just been able to audition and be placed in the class. I am really stepping back from this because of how important it is to have those foundations from previous classes. Ideally, Sophomore students take Beginning Drama, Intermediate Drama, or MDT and then audition for Advanced Drama and can take that their Junior and Senior years. However, you are always able to come talk to me and we can talk through what options I feel are best for you.
If I don't get into the class first semester, can I try again for second semester?
I love having students audition or re-audition and add the class at the 2nd semester.
